Trojan Scaffolding

Bowmer & Kirkland -
The Pilgrims Quarter

Trojan is proud to have supported Bowmer + Kirkland in delivering specialist scaffolding services for the impressive development at Newcastle’s Pilgrim’s Quarter. This project, announced by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in November 2021, marks a significant milestone as it transforms the Pilgrim Street area into a Government Hub for the North East. The regional centre will accommodate approximately 9,000 HMRC staff, making it the largest of HMRC’s 14 regional centres, spanning an impressive 463,000 square feet (43,000 sq m).

To enable the project to go ahead, several structures, including a car park, an art centre, and the interior of the historic Carliol House, were demolished. However, the project has also honoured the area’s heritage by retaining and incorporating the iconic facade of Carliol House into the new Pilgrim’s Quarter building. With a towering height ranging from six to nine storeys, the office complex will envelop Pilgrim Street, Market Street, New Bridge Street West, and John Dobson Street.

Pilgrim’s Quarter is due to be finished in 2027 and is the largest part of a wider overhaul of the Pilgrim Street area. It will also see the city centre’s old fire station turned into a luxury hotel and our North East team recently completed the 14-storey Bank House tower built on the site of a former Bank of England building.
